The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh and one of the top U.S. Generals, David Rodriguez, entered a crucial meeting at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Abuja, on May 13, 2014, Tuesday.

According to the press statement by the DHQ, the CDS tagged the relationship between Nigeria and the U.S.A. as “mutual and strategic”.
Marshal Badeh stated that the Nigerian Army has benefitted a lot in the result of cooperation in the field of training and military hardware. For instance, the Nigerian Navy has recently received a coast guard vessel, apart from other operational equipment.
The U.S. also provides support in tackling oil theft and other maritime threats. However, the joint operation in rescuing over 200 girls kidnapped from GGSS Chibok, Borno State, has the highest priority at the moment, as Nigeria getting ready to receive aerial assistance from the ally.
Marshal Badeh, on behalf of the Federal Government, praised the U.S.A., as well as other global powers, for responding positively to the call for assistance in releasing the abducted girls from Boko Haram terrorists.
In his return, General Rodriguez, who landed in Abuja on May 12, 2014, informed that the meeting at the DHQ was important for discussing modalities in furtherance of U.S. military aid to Nigeria in a joint effort to put an end to insurgency in the country.
